Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has completed his transfer to Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried ahead of the 2025/26 season, the Soweto giants announced on Tuesday.
In a surprising turn of events, the midfielder has finalised a dream move to Europe with the newly-promoted Austrian top-flight outfit, SV Ried, despite having recently committed to a new two-year deal with Amakhosi.
Maart, who joined Chiefs from Sekhukhune United in July 2022, was nearing a return to his former club as his contract was set to expire this month. However, he was persuaded to remain at Chiefs, with the technical team believing he would continue to be an important part of their squad.
Yet, with an offer for the player to move abroad and a club-to-club agreement reached, Maart has ended his three-year spell at Amakhosi. He now joins the likes of Siyabonga Ngezana and Njabulo Blom, who have also secured moves outside the country recently.
“Midfielder Yusuf Maart has left Amakhosi to join newly-promoted Austrian Football Bundesliga outfit, SV Ried,” Chiefs stated in their official announcement. “The Club appreciates Maart’s contribution and wishes him well in this new chapter in his career.”
The skipper made 95 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. This includes the crucial match-winning Soweto Derby strike that helped end their decade-long trophy drought by securing the Nedbank Cup title this past season.
