Ivorian Ligue 1 champions Stade d’Abidjan have named Daniel Breard as their new head coach after the departure of Alexandre Lafitte.
The club won their first-ever league title after a wait of more than five decades under French coach Alexandre Lafitte.
Lafitte left the Ivorian side to join South African outfit Marumo Gallants after the end of his contract. The Ivorian club signed Breard on a two-year deal.
Breard, 66, is no stranger to African football, having worked as both head and assistant coach at Cameroonian side Coton Sport, Guinean outfit CI Kamsar, and DR Congolese club DC Motema Pembe. Breard is a former professional footballer in his native France. He played in the lower divisions but spent a brief period with the OGC Nice youth side.
The new head coach is tasked with defending Stade d’Abidjan’s league title and achieving a strong performance in the CAF Champions League. Breard is also responsible for finding suitable replacements for players who left the club during the transfer window.
