Newly promoted Durban City FC has wasted no time in strengthening their ranks, announcing the signing of ex-Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet, formerly of Cape Town City FC.
Keet’s arrival comes after his previous club was relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, having lost out in the 2024/25 PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs to Orbit College FC.
Durban City has been actively reinforcing both their playing personnel and technical staff for the upcoming Betway Premiership season. The club has brought in seasoned coach Gavin Hunt, a four-time Premiership title winner, to lead the charge. Several other experienced players, including Haashim Domingo, Thabo Nodada, Thulani Hlatshwayo, and Thabang Sibanyoni, have also been training with the team.
In a statement on Wednesday, the KwaZulu-Natal took to social media to welcome Keet. The 35-year-old Keet brings over 16 years of valuable experience from his career, which includes playing both locally and internationally.
“Durban City FC is proud to welcome seasoned shot-stopper Darren Keet to the Club for the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership Season,” the club announced.
In addition to Keet, Durban City has also secured the signatures of Trevor Mokwena from Upington City FC and Brooklyn Poggenpoel, who previously played for SuperSport United. “Durban City FC is thrilled to announce the arrival of talented midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel ahead of the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership Season,” stated the club.
In a separate social media post, they added, “We are thrilled to announce the signing of dynamic forward Trevor Mokwena from Upington City. Trevor joins the squad ahead of the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership season.”
