Ghana forward Jordan Ayew: ‘What I need to improve’

Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew has set personal targets ahead of Leicester City’s return to the Sky Bet Champions this coming season.

The Black Stars regular has shown glimpses of his good self and was on target when the Foxes beat Zalaegerszegi TE 1-0 in Hungary last Saturday.

Ayew stressed the need for self-improvement if he is to contribute effectively to the cause of Leicester next season.

“I’m always confident and positive as a player and as a person. Pre-season is for building that but I’m humble, relaxed and I just need to keep working to improve for the season coming,” the striker explained.

Ayew also highlighted the changes taking place under new Spanish coach Martí Cifuentes who replaced Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“With time and the manager’s ideas, we’ll start picking up speed. Sometimes as a striker you need to force your way through and that’s what I tried to do [against TE]. I feel like we don’t sometimes take enough initiative. We sometimes play it around the box, but we need to shoot more,” he added.

The former Crystal Palace man explained the need for a good start for the former Premier League champions when they open the Sky Bet Championship race with Sheffield Wednesday.

“So far so good. We’ve been working really hard since the beginning and trying to implement what he wants to do. It’s not perfect yet, but that’s what pre-season is for, and we’ll make sure we’re ready for Sheffield Wednesday,” Ayew explained.

Leicester beat Ukrainian hosts FC Karpaty Lviv 2-1 before losing 3-1 to German opposition, Cologne FC, in a double header on Friday.
