Ivorian striker Ibrahim Diabate now has a three-goal lead at the top of scorers’ table in Sweden’s top flight Allsvenskan after scoring yet again on Saturday in a 3-0 victory for GAIS over Halmstad.
The 25-year-old poacher extraordinaire showed all of his goal scoring instincts to put the hosts far beyond reach in the 64th minute when he got on the end of a Rasmus Niklasson cross to finish at the far post. It was another convincing victory for Allsvenskan surprise GAIS, who are now enjoying a ten-match unbeaten run thanks to the heroics of former ASEC Mimosas forward Diabate.
Diabate has now scored in his last three games and in eight of the last nine matches for GAIS, a run that has seen him surge to the top of the charts with eleven goals during this stretch. Due to a poor start, GAIS are just breaking into the top-5 positions in the league but fellow top side Hammarby are among the victims of the upstarts who are dreaming of qualifying for UEFA club competition for next season.
GAIS next travel to last place IFK Värnamo on August 2 for a fixture that looks likely to be another victory and a perfect opportunity for Diabate to continue his hot form.
