Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has announced who will take over the captaincy following the recent departure of Yusuf Maart.
Maart, a 30-year-old midfielder, ended his three-year stint with Amakhosi earlier this month to join Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried. He had been with Chiefs since the start of the 2022/23 campaign after signing from Sekhukhune United.
Maart’s departure comes after he notably led Chiefs to end their ten-year trophy drought by scoring the winning goal in the 2025 Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates.
Nabi has confirmed that Inácio Miguel has been selected as the new permanent captain for the Soweto giants, stepping into Maart’s role.
The Angolan defender notably wore the captain’s armband in the recent Toyota Cup clash against Asante Kotoko, a match Chiefs lost on penalties on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. He also donned the armband during the pre-season friendlies held in the Netherlands camp.
“Today [Saturday], Miguel [was captain]. He will captain the team for the upcoming season,” Nabi stated.
