Malawi senior women’s national football team’s striker Faith Chinzimu is set to sign for Häcken FC of Sweden after agreeing to a three-year deal.
The Daily Times of Malawi and other news outlets have quoted the 18-year-old player and her team, Ascent Soccer official Thom Mkolongo as confirming the transfer.
Chinzimu left Malawi on Monday to begin the new lease of life in Europe, following the footsteps of compatriots Tabitha Chawinga and Rose Kadzere, who are based in France.
The youthful forward said she attended trials with the Swedish club but could not ink a deal then as she was yet to turn 18 years old as per FIFA requirement for professional contracts.
“I am happy my dream has come true. I‘ll work hard so that I feature in the first eleven. I know with God it will be possible. I also ask senior players to help me adapt well just like they helped Rose Kadzere,” she is quoted as saying.
Chinzimu attended trials with top-flight Scandinavian clubs before settling for Häcken FC.
The youngster was part of the Malawi squad that claimed the 2023 COSAFA Cup in South Africa and has been featuring for the Scorchers during recent games against Zambia and South Africa.
She won the Golden Boot at the 2024 Goshen National Championship.
