NWFL champions Bayelsa Queens rewarded by state Governor

All 26 players of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions, Bayelsa Queens have each been rewarded with the sum of four million naira by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri for winning the league.

This was announced during the 167th State Ex-co meeting on Wednesday. Addressing the team, Governor Diri lauded their remarkable performance, and urged them to come back victorious for not just the state but the entire Nigeria.

“Your Prosperity government is happy with you and has decided to reward you for your outstanding performance winning the NWFL Premiership title. As you’re going for the WAFU Zone B, you should know that you’re not only representing Bayelsa State, but Nigeria. So I urge you to come back home with the trophy”

Furthermore, players who were officially registered with the team but did not feature in active matches were not left out, as the Governor personally approved one million naira ($1,000,000) for each of them.

The coaching and administrative staff were also rewarded for their roles in the victory, with the Head Coach awarded four million naira, while the Chairman of the team’s board received three million naira. The assistant coaches were each presented with two million naira and the dedicated backroom staff members took home one point five million naira apiece.

Board members also received one million naira each, as the passionate Supporters Club was recognized with a reward of three million naira.

Governor Diri who also instructed an upward review of salary of the state-owned male and female football teams received the giant trophy from the team.
