Zerrouki, 27, joined Feyenoord from FC Twente two seasons ago. He went on to win the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield with the Rotterdam club but failed to establish himself in the squad. Having fallen down the pecking order, head coach Robin van Persie is not planning to retain the midfielder at the club.
Upon his return, Zerrouki said it was an easy decision. “FC Twente was specifically looking for a player like me. I obviously discussed it with Jan Streuer and the manager, but it didn’t take long. We know what we have in common and what we can expect from each other.”
Zerrouki has been an Algerian international since 2021 and hopes to be selected for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations this December. His return to FC Twente could open the door for him to feature in the tournament.
