Steve Barker: Stellenbosch FC motivated to win MTN8

Ahead of Sunday’s meeting with AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch FC’s coach Steve Barker has declared that his team wants to go one step better and win the MTN8 cup this season.

The coach told his club’s media that the 2024 MTN8 finalists were highly motivated to right the wrongs that cost them the silverware last season.

“Last season, we got to the final of the MTN and unfortunately, it didn’t go our way. We have a big desire to get one step closer,” Barker explained.

“The preparations have gone well. We have worked hard in pre- season, and we are looking forward to the game. I am sure everybody’s ambition is to win the MTN.”

The coach admitted that getting past AmaZulu would not be a stroll in the park for the 2024-2025 CAF Confederation Cup semifinalists.

“There is no game that is easy in the PSL; never mind the quarterfinal of a big cup,” he said.

“We really have to be up for the game. The focus and commitment must be at the highest level if you want to get past an opposition like AmaZulu FC. The motivation levels of the team are high and we are determined to go all the way.”

Stellenbosch missed the cup by a whisker last season when they went down 3-1 to Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium early October 2024. It was a third straight MTN8 silverware for the Buccaneers who start their title defence against Polokwane City on Saturday.
