Emiliano Té has been named the new coach of the Guinea-Bissau national side. The former Bissau international succeeds Portuguese coach Luís Boa Morte, who left his post as head coach last June by mutual consent.
The Guinea-Bissau Football Federation stated previously that they were working to bring in a new head coach for the national side. The Djurtus, as they are nicknamed, failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and currently sit fifth in Group A of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Té, 42, has worked as an assistant coach of the national side under Baciro Candé. The former midfielder spent much of his career in the Portuguese leagues and represented his country for seven years. He signed a one-year deal with the possibility of an extension. The federation has also named assistant coaches, goalkeeping coaches, and fitness trainers to support Té.
Té’s first assignment will be against Sierra Leone and Djibouti in the World Cup qualifiers in September 2025.
