Zambia’s Power Dynamos FC coach Oswald Mutapa has counted the gains of his team’s pre-season matches against PSL opponents in South Africa, citing intensity and tactical aspects.
The former Zambia under-17 boys’ national football team mentor said the camp training in South Africa offered his team an opportunity to test itself against different opponents.
“It was a good two weeks,” the coach told the club’s media. “We played six games. There was good intensity from the games.”
“We played teams that were technically and tactically very good. They have good speed and technically and tactically, very good as well. We were able to handle that. For me, the players responded very well and that is what we can take away from this pre-season.”
Mutapa added that exposure to different playing environments also helped Dynamos ahead of the next season.
“The difference of the environment and opponents from the ones we are used to in Zambia, the intensity was different from the ones we play in Zambia and also the levels of opponents. We played two PSL teams, Chippa United and Sekhukhune United. The pitches are different from what we have in Zambia. We could play our usual game where we could move the ball quickly,” he explained.
The Dynamos coach added that his team was almost ready for the new season Zambia although he needs to fine tune some aspects.
“When the season starts, we need to be ready. We have done our pre-season, but we are still in pre-season. We still need to continue. By the time we will play our first game, we would be ready. We need to do one or two things. We need to fine-tune tune on a bit of tactical and structure of the team,” Mutapa admitted.
Dynamos started their tour of South Africa with a 1-0 loss to another Betway Premiership side Chippa United before sharing spoils with Sekhukhune. The Zambians are preparing for their domestic title defence and participation in the 2025-2025 CAF Champions League.
