Ghana’s Abu Francis completes transfer switch to French side Toulouse

Ghana international Francis Abu has been unveiled as a player for French Ligue 1 side Toulouse ahead of the new season.

In a statement, Toulouse confirmed:  “This Wednesday, August 6, Toulouse Football Club is pleased to announce to its supporters the signing of midfielder Abu Francis, the third recruit of the 2025 summer transfer window. Welcome Abu!”

Hailing from Accra, the capital of Ghana, Abu, who will wear jersey number 17, is a versatile, box-to-box central midfielder capable of covering a large area of the pitch thanks to his high volume of play and ability to repeat efforts.

Trained at the highly regarded Right to Dream Academy, he then joined FC Nordsjaelland, in the Danish first division, where he made his mark at the highest level. In 2022, he signed with Cercle Bruges in Belgium. The previous club of a certain Yann Gboho, whom he would return to in the purple jersey.

The gamble paid off for Abu: in his first season, he played 33 matches, scored two goals and provided three assists. Convinced by his performances, the club extended his contract until the end of the 2024 season, and the Ghanaian international then added 49 additional matches to his tally, with one goal and four assists to his name.

He becomes the first Ghanaian player in the club’s history, having won five caps for the Black Stars.
