Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro said that his team had numerous chances against Modern Sport in the match that brought the two sides together in the first round of the Nile Egyptian League.
Al Ahly were held to a surprising 2-2 draw against Modern Sport in the Nile league first round.
According to Al Ahly’s official website, Riveiro stated during the press conference that the coaching staff expected many difficulties at the start of the season, and that there was possession and many opportunities which were not converted into goals.
He explained: “The performance improved in the second half, but the team conceded a second goal, and the draw is certainly not satisfying for the fans.”
Riveiro added: “We will review the match and identify the mistakes that caused the two goals, and we will definitely work to avoid them.”
He continued: “The participation of any player is up to the coaching staff’s opinion, and everyone delivered what was required of them. I understand Al Ahly’s culture and its constant pursuit of victories, and I appreciate everyone’s efforts.”
The Spanish coach went on: “As the matches progress, things will improve. We have 27 players, and they will not all play in a single match, but there are many upcoming matches and everyone will be utilised.”
Ribeiro concluded by stressing that the pre-season preparation period was sufficient to assess everyone’s abilities, that new players have joined the squad, and that the coaching staff strongly wanted to win the league opener. He emphasised closing this chapter and focusing on the upcoming matches.
