CHAN: President Ruto doubles Kenya’s bonuses ahead of Zambia game

Kenya President William Ruto has doubled winning bonuses for national team Harambee Stars as they prepare to face Zambia in their final Group A fixture of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

In the revised bonuses, Harambee Stars players will now pocket Ksh2.5million upward from Ksh1million, if they manage to beat Zambia.

“Now, heading to Sunday (against Zambia), I want us to have a new deal. On Sunday, it will be a very different package. If we manage to win on Sunday, every player will pocket Ksh2.5million, and it means if we win we qualify for quarters,” said President Ruto as quoted by Flashscore.

In the quarters, if we win the game and reach the semis, on top of Ksh1million, I will add what you have been asking me, a two-bedroomed affordable housing unit in a location of your choice. I hope it is very clear, I want us to read on the same page.”

Ruto added: “If we go past the semi-finals, I will upgrade the affordable house from two bedrooms to three bedrooms. If we reach the final, I don’t want to reveal what I will offer here. I will come back and we will sit down. If we win the trophy, then we will have to meet again, sit down and agree, but by then every one of you will already have a three bedroomed house by the time you reach the final.”

Kenya kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win against DR Congo, settled for a 1-1 draw against Angola, before beating two-champions Morocco 1-0.
