Malawi senior women’s national football team will host Lesotho later this month to warm up for the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against Angola in October.

The Scorchers will play two friendlies against Lesotho at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Friday, 29th August and Sunday, 31st August, the Football Association of Malawi confirmed.

Malawi will take their strength-building matches to eight ahead of the WAFCON qualifiers, much to the delight of coach Lovemore Fazili.

“It is very important because, from the six friendly matches we have played so far, we have learnt a lot. The remaining issues will be polished up through these games,” the coach said.

“These are not just friendly matches, they are preparation for our WAFCON qualifiers in October, so they are coming at the right time.

“If you look at the teams we have played so far, they are always competing at the top level, WAFCON and the World Cup and that is the kind of opposition we need as we prepare for Angola.”

The Scorchers have struggled in the strength-building matches, losing five out of six matches.

Foreign land-based players will miss the two matches since they fall outside the FIFA window.
