Ghana national team goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has said that qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is the most important objective.
The Black Stars rose to the occasion in the last two qualifiers where they notched two victories, beating Chad and Madagascar in matches day five and six. The four-time African champions nailed Chad by 5-0 before beating Madagascar 3-0 to climb atop Group I with 15 points after six matches.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup quarterfinalists will regroup in September for Matchday 7 and 8 of the qualifiers against Chad and Mali. In an interview, Asare emphasized the need to qualify for the Mundial to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico.
“Qualifying for the World Cup is the most important thing to us, so I’m prepared for the qualifiers in September,” the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper said.
“I’m appealing to Ghanaians to support us to qualify,” he added.
Ghana will travel to play Chad on Thursday, September 4, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8.
The Black Stars will wrap up their qualifiers in October against Comoros and Central African Republic.
