The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) heavily for safety breaches, while further threatening to relocate its matches as the African Nations Championship (CHAN) co-hosts.
CAF Disciplinary Board fined FKF USD 50,000 following crowd trouble during the ongoing CHAN matches at the Nyayo International Stadium on Nairobi.
“The Disciplinary Board found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of USD 50,000,” CAF’s verdict reads.
“Kenya was warned that continued failure to meet CAF safety and security requirements may lead to the relocation of Kenya’s National Team matches to an alternative venue. Kenya was advised to increase security measures by deploying sufficient personnel within the perimeter of the stadium as well as adhering to the road closures on match days.”
The continental football governing body also fined the Football Association of Zambia after the Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant failed to show up for a mandatory post-match press conference for a game against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
CAF also slapped the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football with a USD 5,000 fine, half of which is suspended for “inappropriate conduct of its players” during the Atlas Lions’ match against Kenya.
The fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification of this decision.
