WAFU B Women’s qualifiers: “Ghana Police Ladies must deal with a tough group” – Basigi

Ghana’s women football club, Police Ladies must go past a mountainous task in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers.

The Ghanaian champions have been pitted in Group B alongside Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria, Association Sportive de la Kozah of Togo, and Sam Nelly FC from Benin.

Police Ladies head coach Yusif Basigi has described his side’s group in the WAFU B Qualifiers as the toughest of the tournament.

“For me, the draw is good, but our group is the toughest,” he noted in an interview with SportyFM. “Bayelsa Queens are a big team, but every club here has earned the right to compete. We will take it match by match, with the aim of qualifying for the main tournament.”

Yusif Basigi’s experience includes leading Hasaacas Ladies to a runners-up finish in the debut CAF Women’s Champions League and has also managed Ghana’s national women’s teams.

Police Ladies will need to finish top of their group or claim one of the best runners-up spots to secure passage to the finals later this year, where the continent’s elite women’s clubs will battle for glory. The qualifiers kick off in Cote d’Ivoire on August 23 through to September.
