The 2025/26 Spanish top flight side resumed on Friday with African stars coming to the party for Villarreal against Real Oviedo.
The Yellow Submarine proved too strong for the newly promoted side at the Estadio de la Ceramica beating Oviedo by 2-0 in the opening fixture.
With just 12 minutes played, Real Oviedo came up stronger, winning a penalty kick but the opportunity to take the lead was wasted by Salomon Rondon.
Cameroon youngster Etta Eyong fired Villarreal in front after connecting a thunderous header from a well floated corner kick in the 29th minute mark.
Villarreal remained in control of the game after their opening goal, dictating the pace in the middle of the park. Ivory Coast international, Nicolas Pepe made a brilliant incursion into Oviedo’s half, laying a pass in the way of Senegal midfielder, Pape Gueye who tapped home the second goal from outside the penalty area in the 36th minute.
Ghana international, Thomas Partey made a cameo for Villarreal, joining the fray in the 82nd minute for Santi Comesana.
