Manchester United’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has been declared fit for Sunday’s game against Arsenal.
The African star was a big doubt for the Premier League opener against the Gunners.
He suffered an injury which kept him out of all pre-season friendlies against Leeds United, Everton, West Ham United and Bournemouth FC.
Now, with United set to start a fresh Premier League chase for glory, manager Ruben Amorim has given an update on who is available and out of the clash against Arsenal.
Apart from Onana, United have also welcomed back striker Joshua Zirkzee. New signing Benjamin Sesko is also fit for his possible debut after his switch from RB Leipzig.
However, Amorim will be without Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui and Argentine Lisandro Martinez.
“Nous and Licha are out. They cannot play in this game. Josh recovered, Andre recovered, they are options for this game, we will see,” Amorim told United’s website.
The Cameroonian keeper has had an up and down stay at United with his spectacular performances in some games watered by his howlers in others.
The former Inter Milan custodian, however, insisted that criticism was part of the game, and it was important for experienced players to take responsibility.
“As a goalkeeper, you have to take a lot of responsibility. We are here to take the heat when things are not going well,” he added. “If we have a good start against Arsenal, everything will be possible.”
The former Inter Milan custodian made 38 appearances for United last season and kept nine clean sheets.
Onana is deputized by Altay Bayindir who was maning the posts in most pre-season games for the Red Devils.
Amorim has shown faith in the former Ajax Amsterdam man, keeping him alongside other Africans, Ivorian wonderkid Amad and Noussair.
