Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus has finally explained why he left West Ham United to sign for Tottenham Hotspur during the pre-season window.
The Black Stars attacker joined the Hammers in 2023 on a five-year contract from Ajax Amsterdam with a further option for 12 months with the Premier League side.
It did not take long before Kudus established himself with West Ham because of his work ethic and creative play in attack. It, therefore, came as no surprise that big teams started lining up looking for Kudus’ signature.
However, it was Spurs that won the race to recruit the 25-year-old. And Kudus did not disappoint on his debut for Spurs on Saturday. After his debut for Thomas Frank’s team, Kudus explained to Sky Sports Television why he left West Ham.
“Part of the reason I came here was to play in a position I want to play and be in a position where I can entertain the fans because I believe that is what the game is all about. And most importantly, doing it at the right time,” he said.
The Ghanaian created two goals for Richarlison as Spurs dispatched returning Premier League opponents Burnley FC 3-0 on Saturday. Brennan Johnson scored Spurs’ other goal. Such a creative display, spiced up by tricks and dribbles, left Richarlison in awe, saying Kudus plays like a typical Brazilian.
In a response, Kudus received the compliments with grace, saying it was his responsibility to provide assists for strikers.
“As a winger, one of my responsibilities is to serve strikers and put them in a position where it is easier for them to score. It was a brilliant finish [Richarlison’s bicycle kick goal]. I don’t think it was a perfect cross but he made it look so good,” he said.
