Ex-Sundowns Ladies coach beefs up Sporting Club Casablanca with new signings

Former Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ team coach Jerry Tshabalala has hit the ground running at Sporting Club Casablanca FC in Morocco.

Ahead of Morocco’s D1 Women’s Championship kick-off, the CAF Champions League-winning mentor has signed four players.

The club confirmed the signing of Nihad Lgachi, Sara Dofry Malak Kilani and Yassmine Sioui—all highly rated players who are expected to lead Casablanca to domestic and continental glory.

Additionally, Tshabala has brought on board his deputy Oumaima Ossahely.

The 45-year-old earlier indicated that management had given him an opportunity to be involved in players’ recruitment as the ambitious club looks for regional and continental success since being formed in 2019. Sporting Club finished runner-up at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.

“I want to thank them for the opportunity they have given me. They have also opened an opportunity for me to be part of the negotiations in terms of the players coming into the club. It is very important for me to add value in terms of players that are coming to the club,” he said.

The South African coach secured the job in Morocco last month after his acrimonious departure from the Hollywood Bets Super League defending champions mid-December 2024.

After months on the sidelines amid allegations over improper conduct with players at his previous employer, Tshabalala returned to coaching on July 20. Tshabalala cited Casablanca FC’s ambition as one of the reasons he accepted the post.

Tshabalala made a name with Sundowns Ladies after leading them to two CAF Women’s Champions League titles.

Domestically, the coach won seven Hollywood Super League titles during his reign, which did not end particularly well. He was placed on leave to pave the way for investigations of alleged improper conduct at Sundowns last year.

The outcome of the investigations was never made public and he eventually parted ways with the club. Tshabalala has followed in the footsteps of compatriot Rulani Mokwena who had a stint with Wydad Athletic Club.
