Nabi to return for Chiefs’ clash against Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs will have head coach Nasreddine Nabi back on the bench for their highly anticipated clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nabi, who has been on family leave since the start of the season due to a family emergency in Tunisia, is set to rejoin the team this week.

In his absence, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have guided the team to a perfect start, securing three wins and three clean sheets in their first three league matches. This impressive form has put the club in second place on the table.

Ben Youssef confirmed that Nabi will be back in time to prepare the squad for the showdown with Sundowns on August 27 at FNB Stadium in the Betway Premiership.

Nabi departed the country just hours before the opening league match against Stellenbosch FC, a game where Amakhosi secured a convincing 2-0 victory. This marked the start of his compassionate leave, which has lasted for the past few weeks.

“Coach Nabi will be with us this week to prepare for the next game against Mamelodi Sundowns,” Ben Youssef said in his post-match press conference.

The Soweto giants will welcome Sundowns at FNB Stadium on August 27, aiming to collect maximum points and maintain their rich vein of form. The team has shown impressive form so far this season, netting four goals and keeping three clean sheets in their first three games.

The Tunisian coach is in his second season with Chiefs after joining from Morocco’s AS FAR in July 2024. Last season, he ended the club’s long trophy drought by leading them to victory in the 2025 Nedbank Cup.
