GHALCA Top Four: Kotoko defender Samba Oneil targets Gold Stars downfall

The Ghana League Clubs Association’s [GHALCA] Top Four will kick off today with two mouthwatering fixtures at the Legon Stadium.

Giants, Asante Kotoko who won last season’s FA Cup, will open the competition against league champions, Bibiani Gold Stars at 3:00 pm Ghana time.

The club’s captain, Ndongani Samba Gilbani O’neil has reacted to the tough fixture against Gold Stars – a game that will help them prepare for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup against Nigeria side, Kwara United.

“The Top Four is a big competition and with a big history so we are using this to prepare for the [CAF] Confederation [Cup],” he told Kotoko media.

“Bibiani [Gold Stars] are a good side and playing against them is good for us so we are always ready to face any club that will come in front of us so we are getting ready for all of them.

“Kotoko [fans] know you can lose, you can play draw but you have to always put on your mind that you are going for a win so when you are playing any game even if it’s a friendly game, every game that you are getting to play in our mind it’s just victory.”

Asante Kotoko had a good campaign last season, beating rivals Hearts of Oak to the 2025 President’s Cup before lifting the FA Cup after beating Division One side Golden Kicks by 2-1. The team traveled to South Africa to beat Kaizer Chiefs to win the 2025 Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The second fixture of the competition will see Hearts of Oak battle Heart of Lions – a side they defeated by 2-0 to retain the Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup.
