Moatassem Salem, the vice sporting director of Pyramids FC, said that the team has worked very hard throughout the season to reach and compete for the league title, asking: “Why this fight against Pyramids winning the Egyptian League? Still, we will not surrender, and no one will break us — we are continuing until the end.”
Pyramids lost today away to Pharco with a score of 3-2 in the fourth round of the Nile Egyptian League title-deciding phase.
Pyramids are in first place with 47 points, one point ahead of Al Ahly in second.
Salem was referring to what he described as the complete absence of fairness from the Egyptian Professional League by insisting on holding matches against Haras El Hodoud and Pharco at the Max Stadium, which was a main reason for Pyramids’ poor performance, while competitors play at the Borg El Arab Stadium — without any consideration for the principle of equal opportunities.
Salem explained:
The vice sporting director stressed that the match against Pharco was completely different from all previous games, with children and administrators from the very first minute working on wasting time — reaching the point of hiding balls without the referees intervening.
“Also, administrators and players were speaking to our players and technical staff, saying: ‘You won’t win the league,’ and there was a clash at the end of the match with our players which led to the injury of the security director of Pyramids Club while he was trying to keep Pharco’s players and staff away from Pyramids players.
Salem also stressed: “In such crucial matches, how can the Referees Committee appoint a referee who is not up to the level of the match? And how can they not assign an international referee crew suited for the importance and sensitivity of the game? Is it normal that the league leader and title contender plays a match without a competent international refereeing crew worthy of such a vital encounter?
He confirmed that all recent decisions have been directed only against Pyramids Club in an attempt to prevent it from winning the league title, stressing that this obstinacy against the team will only increase their determination to win. “We have faced worse than this and we will work with full force in the coming period to be more prepared and focused on the field to face all kinds of possible injustice aimed at stopping Pyramids from being crowned champions.”
