There are only two rounds left in Tunisia’s top flight Ligue 1 Professionelle and reigning champions Espérance hold the advantage after Saturday’s 1-0 victory over CS Sfaxien.
Brazilian attacker Yan Sasse scored the only goal for Espérance who took advantage of a slip up from title rivals US Monastir to move two points clear. Sasse arrived to volley in from close range after an excellent run and perfect cross from EST’s attacking left back Mohamed Ben Hamida.
In the other important title race match played simultaneously, Monastir could not find the goal in a 0-0 draw with Stade Tunisien. Despite an eleven-match unbeaten run, USM slipped up at a crucial moment but still have a chance to overtake EST.
If Monastir can win at home against ES Métlaoui next week, it will set up a title decider on the final day when they travel to face EST where a win would see them snatch top spot.
