Sundowns make stance clear on want-away players

Mamelodi Sundowns have reacted to reports that some of their players want out, demanding professionalism from potential suitors while looking at the South African club’s interest in respect of its investment in its success.

Players such as Khuliso Mudau, Ntando Nkosi, Terrence Mashego, Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro have reportedly been pushing for an exit from the Betway Premiership champions. Other reports suggest that the Pretoria-based side is reluctant to let go such key players.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, Sundowns says while it has made substantial investments on the recruitment of top players locally, in Africa and South America, it was willing “to engage and negotiate with football clubs in Africa and worldwide.”

“The objective of Sundowns in these discussions and negotiations has always been to advance the interests of the player and the club and to be fair and just, and to contribute to the fulfilment of the interests of all parties,” the statement reads.

“Mamelodi Sundowns has received enquries, particularly after the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, from a few prominent football clubs that have expressed an interest in acquiring the services of certain Sundowns players.

“Mamelodi Sundowns is committed to continue with these discussions and negotiations, as part of its policy and deep commitment to advance the interests of the players and the Club, as well as the fulfilment of the objectives and interests of all parties.”

Players such as Thembinkosi Lorch, Sipho Mbule, Rivaldo Coetzee and Neo Maema have already left Sundowns.
