Abia Warriors’ head coach, Imama Amapakabo, has declared strong confidence in his team’s readiness as they prepare to kick off the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Umuahia club will start their campaign against four-time champions Kano Pillars on Sunday.
Abia Warriors finished third last season, their highest position in the NPFL.
Umu Chineke are unbeaten in their last four games against Kano Pillars.
Amapakabo while speaking with the club’s media declared that his team is ready for the challenges ahead.
“It will be funny if at this time, a few days to the commencement of the league, we say we’re not prepared. We’ve been able to do our bits in our best possible way, I think we will be building on whatever it is that we’ve been able to achieve last season.”
Amapakabo’s remarks come as the club aims to build on a historic 2024-2025 season where they finished a club-record third in the league table, securing a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in their history.
The coach, who rejoined the Umuahia-based side last season, emphasized that the team has done everything possible to prepare for the challenges ahead.
Abia Warriors will also be looking to extend their impressive head-to-head record against their Sunday opponents, as they are currently unbeaten in their last four games against Kano Pillars.
