CAFWCL COSAFA Qualifiers: Sundowns Ladies dominated—Sapula

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ladies coach Godfrey Sapula has saluted his players for delivering the goods in Friday’s opening match 3-0 victory against Malawi’s Ntopwa Ladies in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The hosts thrashed Ntopwa 3-0 with a commanding first half performance to set the tone for Group A of the CAF Women’s Champions League: COSAFA Qualifiers.

In a post-match interview with the COSAFA media, Sapula said his girls ticked most of the boxes.

“We dominated the game,” the coach explained.

“We controlled the tempo. We just did enough to win. There are areas we could have done better and we need to improve, but we are happy to win the first game of the tournament. There were maybe nerves here and there, but we were able to do what was required, which was to score and win the match.”

Botswana forward Refilwe Tholakele netted a double and Nthabiseng Majiya added a second to complete the job for Sapula’s girls.

Sundowns will now take on ZESCO Ndola Ladies on Sunday while Ntopwa will seek to bounce back when they face Beauties FC from Namibia on Sunday.
