After going past hosts Uganda in the quarterfinals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), Senegal defender Seyni Mbaye Ndiaye has maintained their focus is to retain the title in East Africa.
The defending champions reached the last four of the CHAN after edging out the Cranes 1-0 at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, to stay on course to retain their crown.
“Yes, of course I’m happy,” Ndiaye admitted after being named TotalEnergies Man of the Match, as quoted by CAFOnline.com. “The match was very difficult, but we managed to stay strong, as always.”
“As I said, we came here to win the cup. That’s why we are here,” he declared firmly, underlining Senegal’s ambition to defend their title.
On playing against Uganda in the quarterfinals, he said: “We knew it was going to be a very difficult match. But we talked among ourselves, we scored, we created chances. That’s all.”
Senegal will now face two-time CHAN winners Morocco while surprise package Sudan will take on Madagascar in the semifinals stage.
