The transfer fee that Kaizer Chiefs received for the sale of midfielder Yusuf Maart has been disclosed, two months after his move to Austrian side SC Ried 1912.
Despite having recently extended his contract with Chiefs, a lucrative offer from the newly promoted Bundesliga side was enough to secure his departure.
Maart spent three years with the Soweto giants, serving as captain last season and leading the team to a Nedbank Cup triumph. He famously scored the winning goal in the final against Orlando Pirates in May, marking the club’s first trophy in a decade.
The 30-year-old made over 90 appearances for Chiefs, contributing seven goals and eight assists. At his new club, he has already made an impact, with five appearances so far this season, including three starts.
According to reports, Chiefs received €130,000 for Maart, which is approximately R2.6 million. This is a significant decrease from the R6 million they paid Sekhukhune United for him in June 2022.
The deal between Chiefs and Sekhukhune included a 20% sell-on clause. This means Chiefs are now obligated to pay Sekhukhune €26,000 (around R530,000) from the transfer fee. However, reports suggest that the two clubs may be headed for a legal dispute over the unpaid clause.
