Sebelebele eyes first major trophy after guiding Pirates to final

Orlando Pirates versatile Kamogelo Sebelebele is setting his sights on winning his first major trophy after his instrumental performance helped the team reach the MTN8 final for the fourth time in a row.

The 23-year-old was a key figure in the semi-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns, scoring in both legs. His goal in the second leg this past Saturday in Pretoria, a 1-1 draw, was his third in three consecutive matches, a run that has also earned him two Man of the Match awards.

After the Buccaneers secured a 4-1 victory on penalties at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Sebelebele credited the entire team for the success.

“I want to start off by thanking God for the opportunity, for the talent, and the coach [Abdeslam Ouaddou] for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to play for Orlando Pirates,” he said speaking in Setswana, one of South Africa’s official languages.

He admitted the match was challenging, stating, “This game wasn’t easy. We started slow. We didn’t execute the plan the way we had planned.” However, he praised the team’s collective effort. “At half-time, we spoke in the changeroom, and also the guys who got off the bench helped us with the energy. All-round, we’re a team whether it’s on or off the pitch. We need everyone.”

Looking ahead to the final against Stellenbosch FC, a repeat of last season’s decider, Sebelebele is determined to lift the trophy.

“I’m looking forward to the final. My second final professionally. And I need a gold medal, obviously,” he declared. “We’re going to make the fans happy, as they come in numbers. We always have to make them happy.”
