Former Kaizer Chiefs’ star Knowledge Musona wrote his own piece of history in the Zimbabwe top-flight league over the weekend.
The Warriors’ forward finally scored his first-ever goal in the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Musona scored straight from a free-kick in the seventh minute. The strike put Scottland FC on the path to a 3-1 victory over Herentals College FC.
The victory moved the rookies to within one point of leaders and holders, Simba Bhora FC. For the former Chiefs star, scoring the goal was a matter of personal pride.
Musona’s case is peculiar. He is in his debut season in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager PSL. His debut season is coming as he heads into retirement.
The forward left Zimbabwe as a boy while on the books of an amateur team Aces Youth to sign for Chiefs in 2009.
The switch to the South Africa’s PSL opened the doors for what turned to be a successful career in Germany, Belgium and Saudi Arabia.
Musona went on to turn into a big hit for Amakhosi, playing for them for two trophy-laden seasons that paved the way to TSG Hoffenheim in Germany’s Bundesliga in 2011. Two seasons later, this was followed by a second spell with the Betway Premiership team before he returned to Europe.
The forward played Belgium for clubs such as RSC Anderlecht until 2023 when the petrol-dollar of Saudi Arabian proved irresistible starting off at Al-Tai FC. The former Chiefs’ star returned home last month following his exit from Saudi Arabian Pro-League side Al-Okhdood.
