Sudan national team head coach Kwesi Appiah has vowed to fight for every ball when they take on Madagascar in the semifinals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Tuesday.
This will be the second meeting between Madagascar and the Falcons of Jediane at the CHAN, with their first clash coming in the group stages of the 2022 edition, in a three-team group that also included Ghana. Madagascar won that decisive encounter 3-0 to advance as group winners alongside Ghana.
“Our journey wasn’t easy. All our matches so far have been tough. This is a semi-final match and it won’t be easy. We will fight throughout the match until the end,” said Appiah as quoted by CAFOnline.com.
“We are focused on making the Sudanese people happy. They don’t need anything from us. All they want is to see the fighting spirit and for us to make them happy during the match.”
On shifting their base from Zanzibar to Tanzania, the Ghanaian coach said: “After moving from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, I don’t think there will be a difference in the climate and weather. The most important thing is the preparation of our players.
“Our journey wasn’t easy. All our matches so far have been tough. This is a semi-final match and it won’t be easy. We will fight throughout the match until the end.”
Sudan are in their third semi-final but have never advanced further, losing to Angola in 2011 and Nigeria in 2018. Madagascar, meanwhile, are aiming to become the first island nation to reach the final of a CAF senior competition.
