Pirates coach explains Relebohile Mofokeng’s absence

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has clarified why star winger Relebohile Mofokeng was not in the squad for their recent 1-0 win against Orbit College FC.

The Soweto giants secured their second league win in a row with a 1-0 win over Orbit College on Wednesday night at Orlando Stadium.

Mofokeng, who had been a regular starter in the new season, was a notable absentee from the matchday squad, instead watching the game from the stands. His absence came just days after he played a crucial role in the team’s MTN8 semifinal victory over Sundowns.

Following the match against Orbit, Ouaddou confirmed that the 20-year-old missed the game due to an injury.

“About Rele, unfortunately, I have to discuss with my medical department,” Ouaddou stated. “They communicated with me that he cannot be part of the game. We still don’t have full feedback on the exam that he should do. I hope it’s nothing serious because we need him.”

The news of the injury comes at a crucial time for the Buccaneers, who have seemingly turned a corner after a difficult start to the season. The victory against Orbit College marked their second consecutive league win, positioning them well ahead of their upcoming MTN8 final against Stellenbosch.

Mofokeng’s fitness will be a key concern as they prepare for the final.
