World Cup 2026: “Ghana’s qualification chances are brighter” – Mensah

Former Ghana defender, John Mensah has tipped the senior national team to pick victories in their next two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

The Black Stars will travel as guests of Chad in match day 7 at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4 before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium in game day 8 four days later.

Mensah, who once played for Sunderland, Lyon and Rennes believes that, the four time African champions have brighter chances of winning the two games to cement their chances of qualifying for the World Cup to be staged in Canada, US and Mexico.

“If they play like the way they played the last two games, I believe they can qualify. They are playing well now and they know each other very well. I believe if they keep on like that, they can qualify,” Mensah told Citi FM.

“This is a team they are maintaining to stay in the national team. I believe if they keep them together and make a few changes, they can continue to work together and achieve a trophy for the nation,” Mensah, who played 86 times for Ghana and scored three goals, added.

Ghana leads group I on 15 points after six group matches in qualifiers. The Black Stars doubled their qualification chances after two straight wins against Chad in Accra and Madagascar in Morocco.
