Miguel Cardoso fires back at critics after Sundowns win

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has sent a strong message to his critics before abruptly ending his post-match interview.

After a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on Saturday, Sundowns climbed to the top of the Betway Premiership table. The win, their third of the season, came just days after some fans had called for Cardoso’s dismissal following a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs.

Speaking to SuperSport TV, Cardoso highlighted the importance of the result in silencing the noise around the team.

“I think we should’ve scored more than one goal in the first half,” he said. “The emotional reaction from Stellenbosch was good, as expected, but we gave ourselves a fantastic result.”

The coach then turned his attention to his detractors, making a plea for patience and support from the club’s loyal fans.

“It’s important to pass a message to the outside to give peace to the team. This team needs peace, needs support, and the true Mamelodi Sundowns fans should support the team,” Cardoso stated. “Look at the table, look where we are after five matches, after playing away at Stellenbosch, away at Kaizer Chiefs. We didn’t lose, we keep winning, and we are very well…”

Cardoso then walked out of the interview without taking any further questions.
