Victor Osimhen heads in another goal for victorious Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen was on the scoresheet again as Galatasaray matched to a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig victory with a 3-1 result over Çaykur Rizespor on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker nodded in from an Abdülkerim Bardakcı cross early in the second half to double hosts Galatasaray’s lead. The reigning champions had taken the lead earlier with Davinson Sánchez’s opener in the 20th minute.

Visitors Rizespor put up more of a fight in the second half after Osimhen’s goal with Varešanović’s response in the 73rd minute. The game maintained interest from that point on but Mauro Icardi confirmed three points for Gala in stoppage time.

Saturday marked the first time the defending Turkish champions had conceded in the early stages of the campaign. With ongoing crises at Istanbul rivals Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş after Fener crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and Beşiktaş out of European football altogether, only Trabzonspor are keeping pace with the heavy favorites to repeat as Super Lig champions.

Osimhen now has two goals in three games for Galatasaray so far this season. The reigning domestic league and cup champions will next play at Eyüpspor on September 14 following the conclusion of the upcoming FIFA window.
