Uganda star Khalid Aucho joins Singida Black Stars on a two-year deal

Tanzania Premier League outfit Singida Black Stars have secured the services of Uganda midfielder Khalid Aucho as a free agent after his contract with champions Young Africans expired at the end of last season.

Singida, who are under former Yanga coach Miguel Gamondi, have confirmed the arrival of Aucho on a two-year contract that will see him stay at the club until June 30, 2027.

“We have signed Aucho formerly of Yanga on a two-year contract,” read a statement from the club, adding: “Aucho comes with experience having featured for several clubs in the region including Yanga, Kaizer Chiefs and Gor Mahia of Kenya.”

Speaking after being unveiled, Aucho said why he opted for the Singida move: “It is true that I once said I will never play for any team in Tanzania, but after seeing the Singida Black Stars project, I changed my mind.

“I love competition, and Singida is a very competitive team. I know coach Gamondi, who is also a coach who lives in competitions. That is another big reason that made me agree to join Singida Black Stars.”

The 32-year-old had a great campaign with Yanga last season, helping them to retain the Premier League title and clinch the domestic Federation Cup. He joined Yanga from Egyptian club Makkasa, where in his first season made 21 appearances scoring twice, and in his second season he made 13 appearances.

In his career, Aucho has played football in various clubs, such as Jinja Municipal Council F.C. from 2009 to 2010, Water F.C from Uganda from 2010 to 2012, Simba FC from Uganda, Tusker from Kenya, Gor Mahia from Kenya, and Baroka from the South African Premier Soccer League.

He was on the Uganda team that qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 38 years.
