Gambia national team winger Yankuba Minteh is anticipating a very difficult game when they face Kenya in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.
The 21-year-old, who features for Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, is worried that Kenya will be a tough side to handle because they will be enjoying the home advantage.
“It is a good feeling to be in Kenya. I have never been here before, but I love the environment. We are here to win the game, but we know it is going to be a difficult one because Kenya will enjoy the home advantage,” said Minteh as quoted by Flashscore.
“It is always good to give 100 percent, it doesn’t matter if you are playing for your team, national team or not, so if you want to be on the top level, you have to perform in every game, this game is going to motivate me, and I think it is going to be a good game for me and team.”
He added: “Kenya is a difficult team, we already played against them and I know how it feels to play against Kenya, so we are here to win the game and see what happens.”
Harambee Stars and the Scorpions will both be seeking victory in a bid to keep their qualification hopes for the global tournament alive. While Kenya are sitting fourth in Group F with six points, Gambia are fifth with four points.
After the Kenya fixture, Gambia will stay in Nairobi to face Burundi. Meanwhile, Kenya will face Seychelles after the Gambia game at the same venue on September 8.
