Sudanese giants Al Hilal were held to a 1-1 draw by Somalia National League champions Mogadishu City in the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup at Gen. Isamuhyo Stadium on Thursday. The Omdurman-based club is using the tournament in Tanzania to prepare for the upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary round matches.
Romanian coach Laurențiu Reghecampf took charge of Al Hilal for the first time after being named the new trainer to replace the departed Florent Ibenge in August 2025. It was the Somalian champions who took a shocking lead through midfielder Mark Khadohi, who converted a penalty in the 14th minute. Al Hilal leveled matters when Liberian striker Emmanuel Flomo slotted home from close range.
Al Hilal failed to break the resilient Mogadishu City in the second half as the tie ended in a draw. Elsewhere, South Sudan champions Kator and Sudanese side Madani played out a goalless draw in an earlier Group C fixture. Al Hilal top the group with a single point, followed by Mogadishu City.
In Group B, APR of Rwanda and Tanzanian outfit Kinondoni MC registered big wins. APR beat Bumamuru 2-0, while a late surge from Mlandege of Zanzibar could not stop KMC from winning 3-2. APR and Kinondoni top the group with three points.
Action continues on Friday in Group A. Ethiopian Coffee will face Garde-Côtes of Djibouti in the early match before Kenya Police take on Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars.
