Finidi George backs Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho to flourish at Celtic

Former Nigerian international Finidi George believes forward Kelechi Iheanacho made a positive decision to sign for Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

A day after Spanish side Sevilla had terminated his contract, the former Leicester City player landed at Celtic Park on a free transfer and will now play under his former coach Brendan Rodgers.

“Kelechi is a proven talent, and I think Celtic is the perfect stage for him to show that again,” George told Footy Africa. “Sometimes players just need the right environment, a club that believes in them. He’s got the quality, and I believe he will deliver.

“Celtic play attacking football, and Kelechi thrives in that kind of setup. It’s not easy to come back after a tough spell, but great players always find a way. He has the hunger, and this is his chance.”

On signing for Celtic, the Super Eagle vowed to lift silverware with the side. He said as quoted by the club’s official website: “I’m excited to be a Celtic player and I’m feeling really good about it. Celtic is a massive club and I’ve been following them for a long time.

“I’m happy to be a part of that now and hopefully it’ll be a great season. I’m looking forward to fighting for silverware with Celtic. In England, I won trophies so hopefully I can be a winner with Celtic as well.

“I can’t wait to be a part of all of it and I’m very confident that I can bring a lot to the team.”
