Egypt have received a boost ahead of October’s international window, with national team director Ibrahim Hassan confirming that Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan will join the Pharaohs’ next training camp.

The 23-year-old, who was born to an Egyptian father and a Tunisian mother, holds dual nationality but has never represented either country at international level. His inclusion marks his first-ever call-up to Egypt.

Speaking to Yallakora, Ibrahim Hassan said: “We have been in contact with Haissem Hassan, and he will be present with the national team in the next camp.”

Haissem Hassan has enjoyed a positive start to the season in Spain’s First division “La Liga”, registering an assist in his first three league matches with Oviedo.

Helmy Toulan, coach of Egypt’s second national team and a member of the Egyptian FA’s technical committee, previously revealed that he tried to include the winger in the squad for the Arab Cup preparations. However, Hassan declined, insisting on joining the senior side instead.

Toulan told MBC Masr 2: “We have been monitoring Haissem Hassan for about a month. We spoke to him via video conference and wanted him in the second national team, but he refused. He wants to play with the first team in the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.”

Meanwhile, Tunisia coach Sami Trabelsi acknowledged that the winger has expressed a clear preference to represent Egypt over Tunisia.

Hassan’s upcoming involvement with the senior Egyptian national team could be the first step in securing his long-term commitment, as the Pharaohs look to strengthen their options on the wings.
