Spain-based Zambia national team youngster David Hamansenya says he is anticipating a tough but nice game when they take on Morocco in their 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Monday.
While the Atlas Lions have already qualified for the global tournament following their 5-0 thumping of Niger, the Chipolopolo will be seeking to close in on Tanzania, who are sitting second in Group E after they drew 1-1 against Congo.
The Leganes defender is among an array of promising starlets coach Avram Grant has roped in his 26-member squad among them Gift Siame, Joseph Liteta, Mathews Banda, Happy Nsiku, Golden Mafwenta and other already established lads like Miguel Chaiwa and Joseph Sabobo Banda.
Hamansenya, who was one of the shining lights at the Under-20 AFCON in the Zambian set up, believes the Morocco match will not be easy but with hard work, Zambia will triumph.
“We have to work together as a team and everything will go well. The match will be very tough, it will not be an easy game, looking at Morocco the way they played the World Cup, I think it will be a nice game but tough,” he said.
“We want them to come and support us, we want them to be behind us, and they will boost our morale to do our best in the match.”
On getting the opportunity to represent Chipolopolo, he said: “We appreciate this chance and opportunity and we will make sure to utilize the opportunity that we have now. We will make sure to do our best.”
Morocco secured their FIFA World Cup ticket after thumping Niger 5-0 to amass an unassailable 18 points while Tanzania is in second place on 10 points after their 1-1 draw with bottom place Congo Brazzaville who are on one point. Zambia lie third on six points.
The nine group winners will qualify automatically for the FIFA World Cup 26™. The four best runners-up will then compete for one place at the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.
