Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been officially ruled out of Nigerian senior men’s national team, Tuesday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday eight encounter against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The Galatasaray striker was forced off injured in the first half of the Super Eagles 1-0 victory over the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday.
Initial concerns centered around his ankle, but the team’s medical staff provided a more specific diagnosis.
Head coach, Eric Chelle confirmed after the game that Osimhen will be assessed before his team’s departure to South Africa.
However, the official statement from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the setback for the 26 year old, as he wouldn’t be part of the squad traveling.
“Camp Update: Victor Osimhen won’t be traveling with the Super Eagles to South Africa for Tuesday’s match. Team doctor confirms he has a bruise on his chin and woke up this morning feeling some discomfort.”
He is now expected to return to his club in Turkey for further treatment on the injury.
The Super Eagles are set to take on South Africa at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, with both teams vying for a critical three points in a tightly contested qualification group.
