Aden McCarthy gives his take on Chiefs’ league ambitions

Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy has weighed in on the growing title talk surrounding the club, insisting the team is focused on a game-by-game approach despite their impressive start to the 2025/26 season.

Amakhosi have opened their 2025/26 campaign in strong fashion, securing four wins and one draw from their first five Betway Premiership matches. New signings like Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Siphesihle Ndlovu have already made a clear impact, contributing to a noticeable improvement in the team’s performances.

Currently sitting in second place with 13 points, Chiefs have captured the attention of fans and pundits, but McCarthy is cautious about their league ambitions.

“It [the chance of winning the league] can be the air that’s going around, but are we breathing it? Are we breathing that oxygen?” he said to the media.

The defender, who has featured in three matches this season, emphasized that the team’s sole focus is on securing maximum points from each game.

“Honestly, we’re breathing in the three points, game by game. We want that, to take it game by game,” McCarthy added.

He noted that the season is still long, with the team facing commitments in the CAF Confederation Cup, Nedbank Cup, and Carling Knockout Cup, reinforcing the need to stay grounded. “The objective is game by game,” he concluded.
