Kenya national team Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has openly called for the authorities to organize a tournament pitting East African nations, with Tanzania a must in the list.
Speaking after Harambee Stars demolished Seychelles 5-0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, the South African legend explained he would love to face Tanzania and see what they can offer.
After losing to Gambia in another qualifier, a section of Tanzanians celebrated the victory on social media, a decision that irked the former Manchester United assistant coach.
“I wish we can play Tanzania next,” McCarthy told the media after the Seychelles game. “I believe FIFA can quickly fix a four-nation tournament during the next window, we can play Uganda, Rwanda, all East African nations, but Tanzania must be in the list.”
While Kenya lost 3-1 against Gambia but recovered to beat Seychelles 5-0, Tanzania drew 0-0 against Congo but lost their matchday eight fixture 1-0 against Niger at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Taifa Stars are second in their group with 10 points, while Kenya are lying fifth in their respective group with nine points.
