Portuguese coach Renato Paiva has rejected an approach from Egyptian giants Al Ahly to take charge of the first team, according to reports in Portugal.
Newspaper A Bola revealed that Al Ahly recently contacted Paiva, but the former Benfica youth coach declined the offer. The decision was reportedly influenced by his recent departure from Brazilian side Fortaleza, with Paiva feeling that the time was not yet right to embark on a new project.
Despite turning down the opportunity, Paiva expressed pride at being considered by Africa’s most decorated club for the managerial role.
Former AC Milan manager Sergio Conceicao has also declined an offer to take charge of Egyptian giants in the recent days.
Al Ahly are currently in search of a new head coach after parting ways with Jose Riveiro, who lasted just seven matches in charge. Under Rivero, the Cairo club managed only one win, four draws, and two defeats, including a poor start to the Nile Egyptian League, where they collected just five points from four matches.
Emad El-Nahhas is currently leading the team until a new foreign coach is appointed. They will play the first game after Riveiro’s departure on Sunday, at 5:00 PM GMT against Enppi in Nile Egyptian League.
