Serge Aurier’s Persepolis debut delayed by injury setback

Serge Aurier’s debut in the Persian Gulf League will have to wait after the defender suffered an injury setback. The Ivorian right-back signed for Iranian side Persepolis before the start of the new season after a year-long hiatus from football.

Aurier injured his thigh during training, his new club confirmed. In an official statement, Persepolis disclosed that Aurier will be out of action for at least the next four weeks. “Serge Aurier suffered a pulled thigh muscle during training. Examinations and tests assessed the injury as moderate, and paraclinical examinations, including an MRI, confirmed the diagnosis of the team doctor and physiotherapist.”

Aurier joined Persepolis after his last stint at Galatasaray ended in 2024. He was without a club for several months. The two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner with Ivory Coast vowed to fight his way back to the national side for the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
